Singur Impasse -The Anti people Trinamool led movement faces stiff opposition from the common people of West Bengal

By Sandip Chakraborty

Kolkata- The anti people movement by the Trinamool led …. Front was today met with stiff opposition from the common people of the state. The day was also marked with huge youth protest rallies which traversed the main arterial roads of Kolkata and the districts to protest against the illogical demands of the main opposition party of the state. In a significant development the wrath of the commoners was evident when perhaps for the first time in the state’s history, thousands of IT workers of the state staged spontaneous protest rallies against the anti industrialization movement at Singur and expressing their opinion that the Tata’s Nano project should be allowed to come up in Singur. They strongly condemned the violent terror tactics pursued by the so called anti land acquisition activists which have virtually forced the Tata group to stop work for an indefinite period at Singur.  In Singur hundreds of villagers cutting across political affiliation came out on the open road to force the Trinamool to abandon their villainous siege at Singur as according to them the Trinamool campaign is leading to a devastating effect on the whole rural economy at Singur. The administration promptly deployed RAF and police contingents to calm down the situation. In another incident three delegates of the IT industries were virtually manhandled and abused by the top brass of the Trinamool Congress at the place of demonstration in Singur. Reports of protests are also coming from the districts also .Peoples from all walks of life are now voicing their opinion against the bizarre politics of the opposition. Eminent personalities like poet Subodh Sarkar, Sabyasachi Chakraborty walked hand in hand with the youths in the DYFI led protest march organised in state capital. Mentionable that former skipper of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly have also criticized the opposition role, and urged that better sense should prevail and the Nano factory should come up in the interest of the common man of the state.

The wave of pro industrialization protest rallies also touched Singur. Near Ratanpur more in Singur, a pro industrialsation rally and land acquisition campaigners came in face that resulted in a virtual standoff. The pro industrialisation campaigners and were led by the common people of Singur who were severely affected by the stop work of the Tata group duo to their threat perception which was virtually coming from the ongoing Trinamool led opposition siege . According to reports reaching here even hardcore Trinamool Congress supporters of Singur are now actively voicing their opinion against the Trinamool led embargo at Singur. The stop work at Singur has seriously hampered the residents of Singur. There have been reports that a senior citizen of Singur Sushan Santra has committed suicide because of the economic turmoil that his family encountered; after the closure of work at the Tata Plant. Two of his sons who were employed with the Tata’s are now facing uncertain future due to the current spate of opposition induced events. Following the incident there was an up veal in the Jaimolla village at Singur as the villagers blamed that the Trinamool Supremo’s role is directly responsible for his suicide.

Traffic Movement at NH-2 was again hampered for the 10th day also as Trinamool led squatters blocked the highway despite repeated appeals by the District and State administration to the Trinamool Supremo to lift the blockade of the national Highway. The blockage has also resulted in shortage of even medicinal supplies in several of the hospitals of the state. The efforts of the State administration also went to vain as the Trinamool leaders stuck to their point and refused to lift their blockade.

In another development, the governor of the West Bengal held a closed door meeting with representatives of the Trinamool led ……..front and it has been reported that he might be mediating between the opposition and the government. The Governor called the former chief justice of Kolkata High Court, Chittatosh Mukhopadhyaya and has reportedly appointed him as his legal advisor to deal with this issue. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has welcomed the developments. The CPI(M) has welcomed the moved the move and Party’s state secretary Biman Basu has told that any effort to end the embargo is always welcome , and the interests of the common man of West Bengal should be considered to be of highest importance and expressed fear that the ongoing Trinamool campaign and the subsequent Tata stop work notice will have  a negative impact on the future of the state.
