‘We want to let the government be formed by the third alternative with the actions guided by leftist principles’, said Buddhodeb Bhattacharya, Chief minister, West Bengal in a meeting of the intellectuals in Kolkata . He also said that in the context of the present crisis in our country, there is no other alternative way to survive except to work with leftist principles and objectives. He justified his view that the third alternative really can form government at the centre as a large number of the parties joining the third alternative are governing several states, whereas a number of parties are leaving allegiance to Congress. They didn’t take up any policies for the poor people of the country, but were eager to take up the nuclear deal with America. 1lakh and 82 thousands of farmers committed suicide as a consequence of rural distress in India. The report of Arjun Sengupta Commission published by the central govt. shows that 70% of the people in our country have an income of less than 20 Rs. a day whereas 4 heads from our country belong to 10 richest persons of the world. All these happened due to the steps taken by Congress who has right now no answer to give. To form the govt. at the centrel, one needs 272 seats, among which Congress got 145. This time it will be impossible even to keep this 145. The history of the parties like BJP, RSS are terrible, he said. They propagate that there is no difference between terrorism and Islam. They are actually against secularism. They will get no seat in our state this time, Bhattacharayay asserted. The chief minister said, some people are trying to make the poor an aborigine people distracted. In some areas of West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia they are terrorizing people through violence and escaping towards Jharkhand. Some of the people think us weak. But we are asking them to keep trust on mass rather than the barrel of gun.
He made clear his view that the lefts believe in pluralism in the cultural field.
The meeting was well attended by hundreds of intellectuals from the city and suburbs.
Bhattacharayay’s addressed at Diamondharbar
‘Nothing has been done for the minority community by UPA govt.’, Buddhodeb Bhattacharya, the Chief Minister, West Bengal, said in a meeting at Diamondharbar. The meeting was conveyed for the party workers, but it was made a mass-assemblage by the people. The chief minister said, the oppositions are campaigning in the basis of the report by ‘Sachar Committee’. But historically the minorities are socio-economically backward. In our state, 17% of the land is distributed among the Muslims through land –reformation. Even unlike the other states, the salary of the teachers of Madrasa are paid by state govt. He claimed that the questions like the number minorities among the teachers, among the police, in the corporation and municipalities are been paid any interest by ‘Sachar Committee’.
He said that they proposed to make sub-plan for the minorities in 11th plan, but nothing was done. Yet those are implemented as ‘special action plan’ in 12 districts of West Bengal.
