The Central Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) elected a 17 member Polit Bureau with the following leaders: Harkishan Singh Surjeet, Jyoti Basu, E.Balandan, E.K. Nayar, V.S. Achytanandan, Sailen Dasgupta, Prakash Karat, M. Ramchandran Pillai, Sitaram Yechuri, P. Ramchandran, R. Umanath, M. Hanunath Rao, M.K. Pandhe, Biman Basu, Anil Biswas, Manik Sarkar, P. Vijayan.

Among the newly elected members in the Central Committee, M Hanumanth Rao is the Central Committee members for a long period. M.K. Pandhe is the General Secretary of CITU, Biman Basu is the member of the central committee and State Secretariat of West Bengal for a long time. Anil Biswas is now the Secretary of West Bengal State Committee and member of Central Committee. Manik Sarkar is now the Chief Minister of Tripura and State Secretariat member. P. Vijayan is the Secretary Kerala State Committee and elected to the Central Committee from XI the Congress.

Six leaders from defferent states and front are inclucted in the Central Committee : S. Suryanarain Rao (Secretary Karnataka State Committee), T.K. Rangurajan (Secretary CITU, Tamil Nadu, State Committee), T. Birbhadram (State Secretariat member - Andhra Pradesh), Mitali Kumar (Woman Front - West Bengal Sreemathee (Women Front Kerala), Kanai Banerjee (CITU Centre).

From the outgoing Polit Bureau, Com. Benoy Krishna Choudhary has retired. Com. Benoy Choudhary is a veteran leader of the Party, prominent leader of the peasant movement. He was one of the architects of implementation of land reforms in West Bengal as minister in the Left Front government. The Central Committee recorded its appreciation for the services rendered by Com. Benoy Choudhary as a member of the Polit Bureau. He will continue to contribute to work as a member of the Central Committee and the West Bengal State secretariat.
