| EDITORIAL CTBT Motive Exposed On December 15, Prime Minister of India Atal Behari Vajpayee made a statement in both houses of Parliament regarding the bilateral talks between India and USA. In his statement Prime Minister categorically informed the parliament that centre has decided to sign the CTBT. Vajpayee and his colleagues were interested to suppress the contents of the discussion. But the Prime Minister was forced by the US authority to announce the position as US deputy Secretary of state already made a public statement explaining the contents of the talk. What we understand from the Statement of Prime Minister, Mr. Vajpayee? India wants US favour for more time to apprise Indian people about this stand. India wants US favour to keep a stock of nuclear weapons for security reasons. But the stand is clear. Present government of India is ready to sign the CTBT. Moreover, India is projecting its danger from Chinas military power and US government is appreciating the clarification to restrain India from production, testing and deployment of missiles. US wants India should control the export of nuclear missiles. We understand from the statement of Vajpayeeji that India is going to accept the conditions prescribed by United States. America will be the instructor in respect of Indo-Pakistan relationship. Vajpayee government has taken the Pokhran explosion as a gimmick to the Indian people. Just after the explosion India Government is running after United States to become a subordinate in every respect. Presently Vajpayee cabinet is approaching the door of signing CTBT, which will make India a blind follower of Americas unprincipled activities. People of India should understand the actual motive of Vajpayee government and take a firm stand to resist the centre from signing CTBT. India has given the right resistance in 1996 by refusing to sign CTBT. Government of India should persue that policy of foreign relations otherwise India will be endangered by US Imperialist maneuvers. 28th December, 1998. |
