On globalisation of economy

by Mridul De in Havana

The yankees in their self interest have taken the leadership in forcing the countries of the world to adopt the policy of globalizing their respective economies. The principles of neo-liberalisation and globalisation are destined to be defeated. So, it is the task of the people of the world to to unitedly fight the hegemonistic role of the main enemy, the US through democratic means. A world order based on democratic principles is the alternative to the US led policy of globalization. The United Nations can be given the role to enforce the democratic economic reforms all over the world. Unfortunately, the US has been steam rolling its dictatorship in the Security Council of the UNO often overruling the unanimous decision taken by the majority members through sheer use of the veto power . The US is dictating terms in the Security Council by virtue of its economic power The US is pressuring other member countries of the Security Council to toe its line.

If need be, the US even takes unilateral decisions by passing the UN or the Security Council. Such instances are numerous, aggression on Granada, Dominican Republic, Panama, bombing of Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan are a few examples of US brigandism as the US acted on its own, not being inclined to discuss the concerned issue at international forums .It is the prime duty of the people to foil the American aggression militarily and economically and politically. Their inroads into the cultural arena will have to be fought also. These observations were made by the supreme leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro before a gathering of internationally reputed economists on different occasions from January 18. Economists of 49 countries have been discussing here at the conference on the fallout of the globalization of the economy. 500 economists have gathered here to make detailed discussion on the economic reforms propounded by the USA 12-hour discussion was almost a daily routine.

Castro participated in the discussion, listened to points raised by the economists and made questions to them to get clarifications. He even attended the discussions both in the morning and in the evening, place his views at the forum on economic issues, substantiated his arguments with facts and figures . He even answered questions made from the audience.

The CPI(M) General Secretary, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, now here, has exchanged views with Fidel Castro on the present day world situation. Surjeet has been attending the conference too. During discussion between Castro and Surjeet , issues concerning the Latin American countries , the launching of Euro, were also raised and opinion exchanged. Surjeet had also met dignitaries attending the conference.

Castro took the opportunity to explain to the dignitaries attending the conference, how Cuba has made spectacular progress in the fields of health and education. He also referred to selfless services being rendered by Cuban doctors in countries of Latin America. Criticising the present day economic theory of liberalisation, Castro said the world economy has turned out to be a big gamble and the millions of people have fallen victims of the handful of gamblers . The society has been made a haven of these gamblers, Castro said. He said several thousand billion dollars were involved daily in currency speculations all over the world. An end to the hegemonistic role of one country is the goal of millions of people exploited economically everywhere.
