It is a no-win situation, the Vajpayee government has saddled in. Last week, its allies had told the big brother BJP to rein in its Parivar to see the government's image is no further tarnished. But before the ink of the allies' joint statement dried up, the Parivar has still been speeding ahead with its plan of implementing Hindutva programme. Those who had declared that "allies push Sangh bitter pill down BJP triumvirate's throat" seem to have now been eating back their words. While one arm of the Parivar, the Akhil Bharatiya Vanbasi Kalyan Ashram, announces its so-called 'purification plan' which actually means conversion of the Christians into Hindusim, its another arm called Vishwa Hindu Parishad mounts its direct attack on Vajpayee Government for not taking up the 'Hindu cause' in right earnest. The Ashram's open pledge to carry on its conversion programme and the VHP vitriol come just four days after the allies had advised Vajpayee to rein in Parivar's hawks. What an irony! This signals that Sangh Parivar will continue to carry on its own Hindustva Programme and also will not spare the Vajpayee government if it fails to implement the Parivar agenda. As barking dogs don't bite, the Parivar knows well that the allies would not dare withdrawing the support from the government in fear of seeking the another mandate of the people so soon, which means plunging themselves into unknown future. However, it sounds well that Sonia Gandhi shedding her usual reticence has asserted that here party would not allow 'petty political calculation to come in the way of its national responsibilities'. Indication is clear. If BJP government falls, her 'party will not stand and watch after that'. Now the people will have to act. |
