Prof. Chandrakala Pandey, Roop Chandra Murmu, Jagannath Mishra and Ali Kishor Pattanayake both secretariat member (Orissa) visited the village Mandsaur on the border of Kandhamal and Ganjam district where the incident of murder of 19 year old young girl Shonita Nayale and Santosh Pradhan took place. The team talked to the authority and the village people including the father of Sanita and Santosh. Shonita with other two boys had gone down the 500 feat gorge behind the Church to collect hill broomstick. She was willing to sell it for some money by which she could by some churi on the ending festival which was going to be celebrated on 11 th of Feb 99. In the meantime Ranjan Pradhan came and tries to rape her. As Ranjan was recognised by Babla another boy watching from which he killed them by his small axe. The delegation found that though this particular incident is not directly connected with any communal failing or motive but as the whole area has become very sensitive because of the terror created by V.H.P., R.S.S. The Sangh Pariwar and its associate's organisations that are forcibly trying to keep Hindus within the religion to which they are born. They are threatening Hindus with dire consequences if they dare change their religion or fail to 'return home' that is possibly what must be stopped. The V.H.P. has appointed Lakshmnanda Saraswati who resides at Chakkapadu Village 'Math' of Phulbani district and deliberately instigating and provoking people against Christian minority. The delegation talked to the priest of the Mandsaur village church father Barnadigal who reported that they use to celebrate the festival of lady of laurdes feast 11th of February every year and last year at this function at Kitengi Lakshmanand's 'Dal' disturbed the function, some hutment were burnt and dispensary was broken. This year also they were threatened. Priest told us after this incident we are more terrorised because the function is only day after yesterday. After the incidents of Gujrat, Manoharopur and Baripada the entire Christian community is very much frightened. The team appealed to both the community Hindu and Christian to restore peace and harmony and also urged before the D.I.G. and the S.P. to take precautionary measures to maintain peace and communal harmony so that their ensuing function could not be disturbed one of the top police officer (not to disclosing his name) told us these group have special way of action before doing any mischief they preplan what will be the next action. Hence the teams also felt that these communal forces should not be given any political propaganda and to check their activities who is destroying India's composite culture should be banned. |
