Staff Correspondent A t the concluding session of the State conference of Bengal Provincial Krisak Sabha, peasant wing of the CPI(M), at Gangarampur, in South Dinajpur district on Monday, leaders exhorted thousands of peasants present to develop a powerful movement at the grass-root level in association with the working class. The task, they said, was to foil the machination of the communal BJP and the corrupt Congress. The outgoing President of the Krisak Sabha, Benoy Chowdhury, said the peasants being the largest segment of the society would have to take the lead in organising the leftist forces for giving shape to the proposed third front in the country. Left organisations would have to work among the lowest strata of the society thus providing necessary impetus to the democratic and progressive forces to ally with them. Peasants, Chowdhury felt would simultaneously have to spearhead their attack against the imperialists who are shielding imperialism in the name of globalisation, reforms etc. Chowdhury said in framing policies and programmes, priority would have to be given to the demands of the people. It was a fact that both the Congress and the BJP have already surrendered to the imperialists. Under the crucial situation, the unity of the peasant and working class would help thwart the imperialists, he said. Chowdhury said that the process of liberalisation has made the countrys economy bankrupt. The countrys sovereignty was in jeopardy and the BJP and other communal forces were inciting communal and divisive forces the country threatening the integrity of the country. In the capitalist camp the USA and Britain was aiding all violent elements to strike at the borders of India. Even America was dictating terms to 80% of the worlds population. Benoy Chowdhury asked the peasants not to ignore the problems of the people. It was a tough task to throw the BJP out of power. But the condition he said, was favourable to the working class now. The Bengal provincial Krisak Sabha adopted a 15 point programme to be implemented in a phased manner. The programmes include a sustained campaign against economic reforms dictated by the imperialists. This policy of liberalisation is intended to destroy the country's trade and commerce, agriculture and the economy as a whole. Public opinion will have to be mobilized against considerations of castes and creed. The society should not be divided on the lines of the majority and the minority. Movement for total land reforms, for higher agricultural wages and for recording of sharecroppers will have to be strengthened. The importance of the cooperatives in the sphere of agriculture is also emphasized. |
