Tripura Correspondent

History has assigned the left forces to shoulder the noble responsibilities of protecting and preserving the constitutional mandates of the country’s very fabrics of secular, democratic and federal system which are no in a doldrums in the hands of ruling BJP and their saffron brigade. As these basic systems of our constitution relates to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country itself. The left forces think that the struggle for protecting independent India from being split in the hands of the Hindu religious aggressors, is, in no way less important than the struggle for freedom which was attained through supreme sacrifices of innumerable patriots and unheard of meseries. This was the them of the state level convention held at Agartala Town Hall yesterday, at the call of the Tripura Left Front committee on the occasion of the commencement of the statewide mass signature campaign on the oath for preserving the unity and integrity of the country . The convention presided over by senior CPI(M) state secretariat member Bhanu Ghosh, was addressed by Manik Sarkar, state chief minister, Sunil Dasgupta of CPI, S. Bhattacherjee of RSP and Satish Saha on behalf of Forward Block.

The chief minister Manik Sarkar said that, though the BJP is on the helm of the present state of affairs, Congress is equally responsible for the present plight. While BJP played the blatant Hindu communal politics, the Congress was negotiating with them with an eye to majority Hindu vote for their electoral prospect, Sarkar said.

Referring to the nuclear tests last year, Manik Sarkar asked, was it prepared by BJP government? No. Nor it was their election pledge. Then what circumstances did compel them to conduct tests? Certainly to cover up their their failure to implement the assurances they gave during elections. The bomb did not generate a single job, nor did it contain price-rise. The blasts had spoilt our peace image in the international arena. It was utilised by the vested interests and their subservient ruling parties in both the countries in India and Pakistan, he said.

Explaining the Shiv Sena’s anti muslim crusade and recent anti-Christian fanstism in different parts of the country, Manik Sarkar explained, how a prime minister of a country could stand by this kind of notoriety, through a proposal for the national debate on "conversion".

Elaborating the Bihar episode, Sarkar said, we have differences with Laloo Prasad and his style of functioning. Also he is not our class ally. The struggle of the toiling masses in Bihar suffered a lot during his regime. But still, the way president’s rule was imposed in that state is acontravention of the Supreme Court verdict and the spirit of the deliberations of the inter-state council held recently and is a brazen attack on the democratic system of the country. So for the sake of protecting democracy in the country, the undemocratic methods of the BJP government must be opposed tooth and nail he asserted.

Lastly, he appealed to the people of the state to sincerely respond to this signature campaign for the noble cause of protecting the unity and integrity of our country, so that, people Tripura, however tiny it may be, may contribute its mite to form a countrywide effective third alternative in near future.

Today, signature campaign throughout the state has started and it will continue till 15th of this month.
