By Dee Gee N o, it is not mad Haturm tea party, nor is it of Virginia Wolfe's tea aristocracy. It is Swamy's tea party. Subramaniam Swamy. The maverick politician. Nobody can predict which way he will be moving. Even his right hand does not know what is left hand doing. That Swamy is hosting a tea party today in New Delhi. As on record, his mission is to bring Congress President Sonia Gandhi and AIADMK supremo Jaylalitha nearer over a cup of tea. Both have been invited to join others in the tea party. Both have confirmed the invitation. But who the others are? As a record, his mission is to bring Congress President Sonia Gandhi and AIADMK Supremo Jaylalitha nearer over a cup of tea. Both have been invited to join others in the tea party. Both have confirmed the invitation. But who the others are? The newsmen are working overtime to get a list of persons whom Swamy has invited. Many names are floating in the air. The paparatizis are waiting outside training their camera flashguns to click the persons checking in and out. The viewers will come to know by the time this will be 'on line'. What will be brewing in the cup of tea there? It is a million-dollar questions. Those who claim to know Swamy's mindset says he wants to bring down the Vajpayee govt. And he will spread out his game plan in including some of BJP allies will gather. It is not clear whether all who will be attending the tea party are in one mind to help Swamy fulfill his mission. The major opposition party, Congress is still suffering from Hamletian conundrum to strike or not to strike. Its President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has called upon her party MPs to mount attack on the BJP led government in both houses of Parliament. But she has not yet opened her mind as to whether her party would strike at this moment. To decide the 'moment' will be a momentous decision no doubt. The Congress Party leaders are still divided over the choice of 'moment' some prefer 'now', while some others say 'later'. Some say it is high time, otherwise Vajpayee will consolidate his position. While others argue the time to strike will ripe after congress fares well in the ensuing assembly elections in three states-Maharashtra, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. However, the final decision of the Congress Party depends on its President's choice. If she chooses the 'moment' as now the other parties who are waiting in the fence will jump upon the fray. But will she choose? If yes, Swamy's tea party will be a success. Otherwise, it may be a tempest in a tea cup. |
