| NEWSNOTES PANICKED BJP'S HATE CAMPAIGN
INN A pprehending its imminent loss during the ensuing parliament session, the BJP has launched a false and malicious hate campaign against the Left parties. This was stated by the CPI(M) general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet while addressing a press conference at the Party headquarters recently .He made it clear that BJP has lost its battle, it does not have the numbers and cannot continue in office. The slanderous campaign unleashed by the BJP against the Left parties, during the last couple of days openly manifests its frustration. The CPI(M) leader scotched all fears about the alternative government, which is expected to replace the present BJP-led coalition, in the wake of its expected collapse, due to withdrawal of support by the AIADMK. Surjeet said that all the constituents of the erstwhile United Front were being brought together to forge the strong theird front. He denied that the third front was interested in forming the alternative government, and made it clear that the Congress being the largest of the opposition parties, has to tkae initiative in this regard. Surjeet accused the BJP of indulging in large scale horse trading, to manage to cling on to power. He made it clear that the people of the country did not favour mid term elections at this moment, and the alternative government would be formed at the appropriate time. Countering the false BJP campaign, point by point, Surjeet questioned the role of BJP leadership during the national movement for freedom. He challenged the BJP to name even a single leader of its party who had been to jail during the independence struggle. Surjeet said that all the major streams of revolutionaries, whether it was the Ghadar party, the Anushilan Samity or the Yugantar had their ideological moorings of the communists. The CPI(M) general secretary charged the BJP with insulting the numerous sacrifices made by all the revolutionaries for the attainment of freedom. Surjeet referred to four infamous articles written by Arun Shourie in the Illustrated Weekly, on the role of communists in the freedom struggle. He pointed out that after the rebuttal of these articles by the CPI(M), nobody has dared to cast aspersions on the role of communists in the freedom struggle. The CPI(M) general secretary reminded the BJP that the question of complete independence was first raised by the communists in 1922. On the BJP charge that the communists had betrayed the nation in 1942 struggle, Surjeet pointed out that he himself was in jail from 1943 to 44. He, on the contrary, queried the BJP to name who from their side had ever been to jail till 1943 or even afterwards. The CPI(M) leader mentioned that the leaders of BJP had opposed the national movement in 1938. He went on to remind the BJP that its sympathy during the merger of princely states with India, wads with the princes and not with the nation. On the issue of communists having supported the Chinese aggression in 1962, Surjeet lambasted the BJP for spreading canards against the Left, and reiterated theat the position of Left has consistently been that the dispute between the two countries must be sorted out through negotiation, and not war. Coming to Emergency, Surjeet said that the BJP lacked political understanding to differentiate between the two communist parties. He made it clear that the CPI(M) since the very imposition of emergency stood opposed to it, and all the senior leaders of the party had to go jail during this period of repression, when the BJP leaders were writing letters to the then Congress government seeking apologies to avoid going to jail. He challenged the BJP to give a single instance when the CPI(M) had supported the Emergency. |
