tatewide party programme to educate on political and national issues

Staff Reporter

The West Bengal unit of the CPI(M) has taken a decision to undertake a vigorous campaign throughout the state to educate the people about the national and regional considerations facing the party now. The programme, issued by the state committee of the party in Calcutta after a meeting on Saturday, involves the entire month of May. The meeting reviewed the mass signature campaign against communalism which has come to a successful end. The meeting, which issued a statement, said that the dangers of corruption as well as the economic factors also needed to reached out to the people. The statement urged upon the leadership to take up a programme to check the rise in prices and ensure the setting up of fair price shops, reopen sick units and oppose the Patents and Insurance Bills and place definite demands before the 11th Finance Commission.

It has been decided to commemorate May Day this year in a fashion which will speak against the unilateral military action on Yugoslavia by Nato and a central rally is to be held in Calcutta on that day.

Comrades have been asked to educate themselves more vigorously with the tenets of Marxism and books have been earmarked. As part of the rectification drive, the CPI(M) has set up committees to go into recent stray cases of alleged corruption against party leaders and action taken against some leaders.
