BVICTIMSeijing students protesting against the US-led NATO attack on the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade near the U.S. Embassy in Beijing today held high the pictures of the Chinese journalists killed in the attack to express their indignation.

Students placed a wreath at the gate of the US Embassy, and many students wore white paper flowers and black armbands to show their condolences on the death of the three resident journalists in Belgrade killed in the attack on the Chinese embassy at midnight Friday. The embassy building was seriously damaged.

More than 20,000 students from various colleges and universities, including the prestigious Beijing University and Qinghua University, gathered outside the US Embassy to lodge their strongest protest.

Many Chinese policemen have been around the embassy around the clock to maintain order.

Some foreigners also voiced their support to the protesters.

Apology is not enough, said an Australian in Beijing.

A Swiss woman said: "I am on the Chinese side."

Every university was represented by a squad of students who held high their university flags in the procession. The protesters stopped briefly at the embassy gate and shouted slogans.

Among the protesters, some held in front of their chest a large piece of paper printed with the pattern of a target -- the popular symbol for the Yugoslav people's spirit against foreign invasion.

The protesters drew praises from citizens who lined both sides of the street, who also shouted slogans.
