| Editorial No Majority Cabinet T he caretaker Government at the centre is being cornered over the change of governors in different states. Without having any consultation with West Bengal government, Mr. A.R. Kidwai has been asked through his secretary to resign from West Bengal governorship. These undemocratic and unethical norms adopted by Vajpayee ministry evolve a wide spread protest from the various corners of the country. The protest against caretaker ministry's activities has compelled them to stop the effort of mass transfer of governors. It is clear from the evidences that BJP ministry is trying to reshuffle the administration in their petty interest. Their only target to misuse the bureaucracy and other administrative key persons during the election. But Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, caretaker Prime Minister must recall that on the day of their resignation, they have lost the majority. Our constitution categorically mentions that cabinet is liable to house of the people, where any action or inaction can be questioned. Now there is no existence of house of the people. Therefore, caretaker cabinet should not take any decision which can challenge the rights of the people and basic principles of Parliamentary democracy. Even in this situation some quarters are trying to defend the rights of caretaker government. This idea is only promoting the autocratic attitude of government. We hope, the right thinking people of the country will come forward to combat the caretaker ministry's actions which is derrogating the norms of parliamentary democracy in India. 17th May 1999. |
