From India News Network(INN) W ith a view to involve the masses in the process of development, the Left Front government brings out a book as a detailed guide to the policies and programmes of the state government for development of Tripura, a state with the highest percentage of people below poverty live in the entire country. The book points to the chances and challenges for the states economy, the aims and objectives of the states government , and the means and methods of paths the long term and the short term development process to be undertaken by the state government.Inaugurating the book entitled Aspects of the Planning for People in Tripura, at a press conference at the Civil secretariat on May 12, chief minister Manik Sarkar said that this is the first endevour of the government of Tripura to enlighten the people about the elaborate aspects of its work-place which reflect the top most priority given to the objective of socio-economic up-gradation of the state populace, especially those living below poverty line. To put in proper perspective the publication of this book, chief minister stated that on July 6, 1998, in the first meeting of the state Planning Board, four sub-committees were formed to first identify the problems for development in the spheres of primary sector, i.e. infrastructure and agriculture, secondary sector, i.e. industry, tertiary, i.e. services sector, and tribal welfare sector and than to recommended required measures to attain the goals. He said that both in quality and quantity the states infrastructure is far from satisfactory, although problems and prospects co-exist in Tripura. Natural Gas, rubber, tea, coffee, orchards and forests present bright prospects for development of the by and large agriculture-based economy of this state. With the highest average annual rainfall in the entire country (2000mm) and abundant surface weather from eight main rivers the state cannot but achieve tremendous progress in agriculture, if appropriate use of land, water and technology is made, he maintained, and added that the development of the primary sector will boost the secondary sector, although the development of the territory or services sector is uncertain at this stage. He informed the press that the state government has already started its own work putting special emphasis on agriculture-based industry and tourism industry, and the need of the hour is an impetus among the people, assistance from the centre and constructive criticism from the press. |
