| NEWSNOTES Election: Karnataka CPI(M) decisions
From India News Network(INN) K arnataka state committee meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) decided that the immediate task in the fourth coming election is to defeat the communal BJP and its allies which has misruled the country for the past 14 months. At the same time the meeting decided to strengthen the third alternative of left, democratic and secular forces by defeating the Congress (I) which is also responsible for anti-people economic policies; even now the Congress advocates the same policies. The fascistic BJP government, which is against secularism and democracy, was defeated in the Lok Sabha and was not able to prove its majority. Parliament has been dissolved. Yet the BJP-led government acts like a full-fledged government instead of a caretaker government. It is ridiculous that such a party is now calling the opportunistic coalition it is leading as the "National Democratic Alliance". The state committee meeting of the CPI (M) was held at Bangalore on May 15-16, 1999. S. Ramachandran, Polit Bureau member, also attended. The meeting was convened in the background of the forthcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections. The CPI (M) state committee has decided to contest for 2 Lok Sabha (Chickballapur and Kolar) and 14 assembly constituencies in the state. The CPI (M) has welcomed the unity exhibited by the Janata Dal leadership setting aside all the speculation that it would be divided. At the same time the CPI (M) acclaimed the decision of Janata Dal to defeat the BJP and the Congress (I) in the forthcoming elections. It is a serious setback to Ramakrishna Hegde who has been trying to allure a section of the Janata Dal to his side. Even J.H. Patel, the chief minister, has clarified his position in unequivocal words, which will definitely strengthen the secular forces in the state. In this background the CPI (M) state committee has decided to fight the elections jointly with the CPI and Janata Dal in the state in order to defeat the BJP and its allies as well as the Congress (I). |
