ABLE GOVERNMENT

As the Indian army and airmen fight valiantly to throw away the Pakistan-backed infiltrators from Kargil Sector in Kashmir, a secret report prepared by the intelligence unit of Border Security Force under Ministry of Home Affairs, has been quoted by an Indian news daily, revealing that Pak backed infiltrators and regulars had occupied the higher reaches of Kargil as early as January 1999. Further these movements had gone unnoticed until three odd weeks ago. In other words the so-called able government was found totally unawares leading to the present serious situation on the border.

However such a miserable failure in defending the country's border dose not deter the loud mouth Defence Minister of the Government to go ahead with his favourite pastime of giving contradictory, confusing and mostly ridiculous statements. All sections of the people and political parties have extended support to the efforts to get rid of the armed infiltrators in J&K, it is surprising to see that the Defence Minister has announced that the Nawaj Sharief government and the ISI have not played any role in the infiltration. He has blamed Pakistan Army for this adventure by ignoring their government. It is highly condemnable that the union Defence Minister can make such a formulation virtually exonerating the Pakistan Government. The Defence Minister and the able Government owe an explanation to the nation for the disability to defend the borders in time. Prime Minister should give explanation to the people for the irresponsible statements of Defence Minister, which is damaging the reputation of India internationally.
