| NEWSNOTES The Melting Party
Special Correspondent Strange are the ways the Bourgeoisie Politicians of India Behave. One who till otherday found virtues manifest in Sonia Gandhi now suddenly discovers that she is a foreigner by birth, as if it was unknown or a hidden fact. With no bounding Ideology or motive force behind, these People have not been able to rise above petty self interest, even if that means allying with just yesterday's enemy. And Pawar seeks solace in BJP..So how does it look now, after a fortnight of Congress Crisis nobody had predicted? Has the Pawar syndrome taken root? Is there a major crisis all over for the Congress. By all indications as of now, it seems to the contrary. Sonia has rejoined after a week of resignation. The AICC has held a 'succesful session'. And teh three revoltees? They are desperate search of allies. By symptoms as of now, it seems that apart from maharastra and to some extent North East, no major Congress Unit sems to have got affected. On teh contrary most of them pledged total support for teh current leadership. And if media pundits are to be believed, the third among the trio Tariq Anwar is negotiating way back home, with his mentor Sitaram Kesri. The Pawar and its National Congress Party is bundled with conradictions from its birth. Pawar wants to ally with BJP, Sangma is not so sure, even though he had been seen in BJP company earlier. Then the most moot question is what happened so quick that Pawar discovered that Sonia was a foreigner by birth? It was they who brought her in first place, it was they who made her President. After no-cofidence defeat of Vajpayee it was Pawar who staked claimed under Sonia's leadership. So what happened now. It was a plot, and that has to be unveiled. It is not quite strange that it was Maharastra politics alone which had precipated this crisis, and it is Maharastra again whch has to be watched. Pawar has had till now substantial local success and a grand national failure. So it seems that he has reconciled to the fact of staying home. As you need only a third MLA's to effect a split, Pawar's gameplan was to do so in Maharstra and ally with the independents, most of whom are his supporters, to effect an alliance with the BJP. BJP which now feels Shiv Sena as its albatross cross around its neck had already given standing invitation to Pawar, that as and when he forms his own party it would be too happy to ally with him. Party spokesman Pramod mahajan is on record on this. It is not without significance that soon after being expelled Pawar cpntacted Vajpayee , then in Calcutta and soon Vajpaye issued a statement condemming the expulsion, overlooking the fact that it was gross meddling into other party's affairs. Though the BJP has backtracked now with public threat from Bal Thakeray, it seems it is only matter of time that Pawar allies with BJP. |
