Biswa Banga Sammelan Millenium committee has decided to organise the lighting up government and other commercial buildings during the festival. It has been also decided that Art work of eminent artists specially done for the Millenium Festival will be auctioned during the festival for raising funds for the millenium trust. All the districts of the state will participate in the festival.

A steering has been constituted by the State Government under the Chairmanship of Shri Manish Gupta, Chief Secretary Government of West Bengal for providing necessary support to the Biswa Banga Sammelan Millenium Committee in organising the Millenium festival in Calcutta from 29 December 1999 to January 2000. Other members of the Steering Committee are Mr. U.K.Roy, Principal Secretary P.W.D., Shri Jayanta Sanyal, Principal Secretary Tourism, Shri S.N. Menon Principal Secretary to CM, Shri Amit Kiran Dev Secy. I & CA, Shri Ashim Barman, Commissioner, Calcutta Corporation, and Shri Sanjay Chakraborty, Additional CP.

The first meeting of the Steering Committee held on 4th June 1999 was presided over by Shri Manish Gupta, CS. Apart from the member of the Steering Committee, Director, Information, Director Culture, Director tourism on behalf of State Government and Shri Tushar Talukdar, Shri S.K.Roy, Shri Sujit Poddar and Shri Mridul Pathak attended the meeting on behalf of Biswa Banga Sammelan Millennium committee.

A few thousand Artists from all parts of the State, India and abroad, who are associated with Bengali Art and Culture will be in Calcutta during the 12 days of Millennium Festival for taking part in different events. The State Government has agreed to help in making available accommodation for the Artists who will participate in the Millennium Festival.

Application has already been made for booking of Nandan, Rabindra Sadan, Mahajati Sadan, Girish Manch, University Institute, Nazrul Manch, Madhusudan Manch, Netaji Indoor Stadium, Yubabharati Krirangan from 27th December 1999 to 9th January 2000 for organising various events in the festival. The State Government has agreed to book the halls for the Millenium Festival.
