| Editorial DOUBLE SPEAK AT ITS BEST R emember the martyr (!) Government, which lost its majority in Lok Sabha two months back. Yes, martyr was the word used by BJP when it lost the vote of confidence in the Parliament. AIADMK and its leader were termed as 'traitor' because of their withdrawal of support. The entire opposition, which voted against the Confidence Motion, was 'conspirators' because they conspired to destabilise the so-called stable Government on various acts omission and commission. They were irresponsible because they did not offer an alternative Government before voting against the Government. Even President's action in asking the Vajpayee Government to seek the Vote of Confidence from Lok Sabha when AIADMK withdrew the support, was questioned. Now, look at Haryana where BJP, an ally of Bansi Lal Government, has withdrawn its support after remaining in the Government for 3 years. The able Prime Minister has now come to the conclusion that Bansi Lal Government is involved in corruption and high handedness in management of the Government. Bansi Lal has been asked to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly and the politics of 'Aya Ram Gaya Ram' (horse trading) is in full swing in a State which is not far off from Kargil and wherefrom number of brave soldiers are defending the country's border. BJP has really made 'double speak' an art and Haryana is the best example of the excellence it had achieved in the art of 'double speak'. 28th June 1999. |
