| NEWSNOTES POLITICISING KARGIL ISSUE
Special Correspondent B JP is politicising the Kargil issue for narrow political purposes through newspaper advertisements and by holding a Rashriya Raksha Rally at Patna on June 25. CPI(M) Bihar State Secretariat alleged in a statement that BJP and Sangh Parivar are exploiting the sentiment of national defence. The issue of national security is, the CPI(M) said, not the exclusive domain of the BJP as the party is trying to project. All political parties and the people of India are totally united on the country's defence and security, eviction of Pakistani army and infiltrators from Indian soil and in paying homage to the brave jawans who laid down their lives in defence of the country. As is the usual practice of the BJP and Sangh Parivar, they are trying to distort the history of Kashmir. In their advertisement and campaign they refused to recognise the martyrdom of thousands of Indian army jawans and Kashmiri civilians who laid down their lives fighting against Pakistani army and infiltrators in 1947. They refused to recognise the fact that it was the Kashmiri Muslims who stood in defence of India and rose against the conspiracy of the Hindu Maharaja who opposed Kashmir's inclusion in India. The RSS and the Sangh Parivar are at one with the Muslim fundamentalists in Pakistan, as both are trying to build up war hysteria and are blatantly asking for the use of nuclear weapons and missiles against each other's country. Opposition political parties did not want to raise the issue of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government's serious failure and mishandling of Kargil issue at a time when the country is engaged in driving out Pakistani armymen and infiltrators from Kargil. But, in a partisan manner, the BJP is raising the issue in such a manner as if the country's security depends on the BJP government alone. The people of the country would like to know as to how Pakistani army and the infiltrators were allowed to come in, occupy Indian territory and consolidate their position inside India in Kargil. It is due to this failure on part of the central government that a large number of Indian army officers and jawans had to lay down and are still laying down their lives and India had to pay a heavy price. Indian jawans are dying while fighting the enemy on Indian soil. It is a faulty security perception of the BJP-led government at the centre which the BJP is trying to project as ideal. But the CPI(M) is confident that people of India will never accept such manoeuvres of the BJP to gain political advantage out of the issue of the country's security, just as they had rejected the much hyped propaganda after Pokhran test. |
