Staff Reporter T he West Bengal Human Rights Commission is happy with the work with the government in this sphere. The chairman of the Commission, Mukulgopal Mukherjee, releasing the annual report last week if the organisation in Calcutta, said that the government had implemented almost all the recommendations of the organisation over the last year, making it one of the laudatory exceptions to the rule in the country. Compensations had been provided and accused employees under a cloud with proven charges had been transferred on the Commission's recommendations. Mukherjee said that the state was fortunate compared to the justice meted out in other states. The report, the third such in as many years, list more cases than last year with more than 3,000 recorded cases, obviously indicating a greater awareness among the people about the rights of the common people and the role of the organisation However, Mukherjee said that it was necessary to increase the work force of the organisation as well as power and scope of the body to make it more effective. |
