From India News network (INN) T he National Executive of All India State Government Employees Federation which met at New Delhi on 30th June & 1st July 1999 called upon 8 million state employees & teachers to massively join in "All India Protest Day on 11th August 1999 at all levels of the country through demonstrations and rallies against the surge of privatisation of the government departments, public sector undertakings in most of the states, huge reduction of staff, unprecedented victimisation in Haryana, atrocities on the striking employees in Tamilnadu and betrayal of the Bihar government in refusing to implement the written agreements on strike period pay and the demands.The national executive taking into the present political and economic situation, the Kargil way and the tremendous offensive of the government on the workers and employees took the decision. The meeting while lent its full support and sympathy to the defence forces for defending the countrys border decided to lunch struggle to defend the interest of the employees also. The national executive decided to collect funds for solidarity with the victimised employees of Haryana where 750 union activists stand suspended. The meeting heard the reports from the representatives of the states about the spate of privatisation of the government departments and state public sector undertakings and reduction and retrenchment of huge number of employees in deferent state, particularly where World Bank loans have recently been received by the state governments. It happened in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and some other states. The meeting decided for holding the 10th National Conference of the All India State Government Employees Federation at Mumbai from 27-30, December 1999. The Maharashtra State Government Employees Confederation will host the conference. The National Executive decided to increase the circulation of the monthly journal Employees Forum (English) and Employees Forum (Hindi) so that more and more employees get equipped with national and international news of trade union movement and articles on topical issues. The National Executive heard the report from Com. Sukomal Sen, general secretary of AISGEF and also TUI of the Public & Allied Employees about his attending 87th Conference of the ILO at Geneva in the 1st week of June 1999 and his meeting with the Public Service Trade Unions of Portugal & Spain in the second week of that month. The National Executive also heard the report from Com. Sukomal Sen about his meeting the Public Service Trade Unions of Bangladesh in the last week of June 1999. The National executive considered the meetings highly successful and hoped that more contacts with the Public Service Trade Unions abroad and the TUI will be established in future.
