
| NEWSNOTES Left is Right Again in Tripura
Staff Reporter The Left Front has won convincingly in the three-tier panchayat elections in Tripura. The Congress has been routed in the 23 blocks of the state .The Front has won all the four zilla parishads and and 23 panchayat samities. Almost 90 per cent of the Front candidates have won.Victory rallies are being taken out by the hour throughout the state and congratulatory messages are coming in.The Front had won handsomely in the first panchayat elections held in the state.The CPI(M) has got 77 of the 81 zilla parishad seats, an improvement over the 69 last time. Last time, the |Front won 491 0f the 525 seats while this time, the Front has got 475 .The chief minister Manik Sarkar has welcomed the victory saying that the people had seen the Fronts work and given its verdict accordingly. |
