People throughout the State of West Bengal observed the Hiroshim day on August 6 highlighting the need for a nuclear free world. Simultaneously they condemned the American imperialism which by its savage act on humanity dropped the first nuclear bomb at the closing stage of the Second World War on Hiroshima on the same day 6 August, 1945 killing thousands of people and maiming still many more. Processions were taken out, meetings were held and seminar organized to make people aware of the dangers these nuclear weapons posed to mankind even today. Not content with the dropping of the first nuclear bomb, the USA again dropped another nuclear bomb in Nagasaki, also in Japan on 9 August.

Since then peace-loving people all over the world have been voicing their protest against hellish act of the US imperialists ---- year after year. Braving heavy rains, people assembled in front of the USIS in Calcutta to voice their condemnation against use of the nuclear weapons and demand abolition of the nuclear arsenal of the nuclear-club countries which include the USA.
