The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the issuing of a warrant by the BJP-Shiv Sena government of Maharashtra to arrest Dr. James Massey, member of the National Minorities Commission and Rev. George Ninan, Bishop of Nasik on the basis of an alleged complaint by some Shiv Sainiks in Ahmednagar. This sinister move has serious political implications and, once again, exposes the openly aggressive anti-minority attitude and anti-democratic practices of the BJP-Shiv Sena combine.

It is more significant that the Chairman of the National Minorities Commission, Dr. Tahir Mohd himself has sent letters of protest to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. If the members of the National Commission for Minorities themselves are subjected to vindictive actions, the fate of the minorities themselves under the present regime can well be understood.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon all secular democratic forces of the country to come forward to condemn urgently this obnoxious move of the BJP-Shiv Sena government of Maharashtra.
