The Polit Bureau of the CPI (M) expresses its deep sorrow at the passing away of Com. Ayodhya Singh, veteran Communist leader and prominent Leftwing journalist and writer. Ayodhya Singh joined the anti-imperialist movement as a student in Calcutta in the thirties. He joined the Communist Party in 1943 influenced by Muzaffar Ahmed. His role in propagating Communist ideas as a powerful Hindi writer was notable. He was the editor of Swadhinatha for a long time, a post he held till his death.

A member of the West Bengal state committee of the CPI(M) for a long time, Com. Ayodhya Singh was a fine communist and an intellectual who devoted his entire life for the working people. His loss will be felt deeply in Left circles. The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to his daughters and son.
