Five years back, there was uproar in the country when US multi-national Enron,s Executive revealed that $60 million were spent on educating Indian politicians/bureaucrats. This was a part of the package when Enron’s Power Project was finalised by Maharashtra Govt. BJP had also joined others in ridiculing Mr. Sharad Pawar, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra and other Congress politicians on their newly acquired ‘education’ from US multi-national. This was the time when series of scams of Narasimha Rao Govt. At the Centre were revealed. Mr. Sukh Ram, the then Communication Minister, emerged at that time as a super star of various scams. His telecom policy in 1994 subsequent bonanzas he doled out to private Telecom Companies, had led to a pandemonium when Parliament had to be stalled for 7 days by the Opposition including BJP, the main opposition party. Pandit Sukh Ram had to spend days in Jail before the Congress lost the 1996 parliamentary election. Mr. Sukh Ram, by then expelled from the Congress, however, got himself rehabilitated as an ally of BJP in sharing power in Himachal Pradesh. He is still a trusted ally of BJP.
