| NEWSNOTES Left Secular Convention Calls Upon to Defeat BJP-BJD Alliance
From India News Network(INN) T he state level convention of Left and secular parties, held at Bhubaneshwar on 11th August announced its resolve to work for the defeat of the BJP and its alliance partner the Biju Janata Dal in order to strengthen the third alternative. The convention in its declaration reaffirmed the faith of the Left and secular forces to build up such an alternative through mass movements. The convention was organised jointly by the CPI(M), CPI, Janata Dal (Secular). The Forward Bloc and Gana Abhijan (the breakaway group of SUCI) joined the convention. A presidium comprising Yudhisthra Das, MLA (JD-S), Sivaji Patnaik (CPI-M), D.K. Panda (CPI) and Saudamini Path (FB) presided over the meeting.Addressing the convention CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury called upon the patriotic forces to work together to ensure the defeat of BJP and its allies in the 13th Lok Sabha elections, as they have failed to provide security and protect the territory of the country. He ridiculed the BJP's slogan of stability, asking how an alliance of instability could provide stability. After experiencing the BJP brand of stability in its 13 months tenure, people are not going to be fooled once again. The nature of BJP led alliance is like marrying someone during election and giving 'talaq' to the partner after election, choosing another partner. Divorcing Laxmi Parvati and marrying to Naidu in Andhra Pradesh and repeating the same in case of Bansilal and Chautala in Haryana are pointers to of the BJP's "political ethics." The telecom scam, the biggest scam of the country, has exposed the real face of BJP that was claiming to be a party with a difference. In this connection the BJP is not prepared to listen to other constitutional authorities like the president, the Election Commission, the CAG and the Delhi High Court. Similar was the case of disinvestment. Dismissed Admiral Vishnu Bhagat and finance minister's former advisor Mohan Guruswami have catalogued a number of corrupt practices of the BJP government. The BJP rule was used to institutionalised the offensive against minorities. The killing of Staines in Orissa and the current riot at Ahamadbad are its examples. To protect national security, secularism and democracy in the country, the patriotic forces must have to play their due role by defeating the BJP in the 13th Lok Sabha elections, Yechury stressed. The impressive convention was also addressed by CPI general secretary, A B Bardhan, who compared the election battle with that of the Kargil and said the BJP-BJD like intruders have to be driven out of Orissa. He expressed his confidence that the final victory belongs to the Left and secular forces. Janata Dal (Secular)'s state unit president Ashok Das and Forward Bloc leader Devrajan spoke following Sitaram Yechury and A B Bardhan. A resolution was placed by Abani Baral, state unit secretary of CPI, and was supported by Janardhan Pati, state committee secretary of the CPI(M), former Union minister Srikant Jena and Forward Bloc leader Sarat Mansingh. The Gana Abhijan leader Mayadhar Nayak greeted the convention and extended support to the resolution. Rajendra Prasad Singh (JD-S), Akshaya Pradhan (CPI) and Jaganath Misra (CPI-M) also addressed the convention. |
