PI(M) calls teh nuclear doctrine by BJP govt illegal and untimely

Staff Reporter

Inaugurating the convention of LDF workers of Kollam constituency, V.S. Achuthanandan, the LDF Convenor and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, said that the economic polices in the election manifestos of the Congress(I) and BJP were one and the same. He demanded the state leaders of Congress(I) and BJP to make it clear whether same persons prepared the two manifestoes. The manifestoes of these two parties want to have the same amount of Rs.43,000 crores every year as foreign investment and aim at the same growth rate of 7 to 8%. The two documents in different terms envisage the public sector to be limited to nuclear energy sources, defence and space. They agree to sell out the public sector companies and they are not at all interested in continuing the banking sector as a part of our public sector. Congress(I) is willing to allow the native monopolies to enter the insurance sector while the BJP that has already allowed even the foreign monopolies to enter this sector is meaningfully silent in its manifesto on this issue. The manifestoes are also silent on such specific programmes as containing the growing fiscal deficit of the government. Achuthanandan said that only the manifesto of CPI(M) contains suggestions for people-friendly reforms in economic and fiscal sectors of the national economy.
