This election is a direct fight between communal and corrupt forces on one side, and those committed to secularism on the other, and the 13 + 4 months rule of the BJP has been a total disaster for the country. This was stated by the CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury, while addressing a press conference at the Party headquarters, on 24th August. He was addressing the reporters after releasing the first set of two pamphlets, drafted by the CPI(M), to expose the policies and the performance of the BJP-led government. The first two pamphlets released today are titled - (1) Unabated Communal Offensive : Barbaric Times Under Saffron Brigade, and (2) Communalising Education : Falsifying History.

Yechury announced that the CPI(M) will be releasing eight more pamphlets in the run-up to these elections. All the pamphlets have been devoted to expose the four themes on which the BJP had been harping, before it came to power and during its 13 + 4 months of rule hoodwinked the electorate on its slogans - Liberation from Bhook, Bhay, Bhrashtachar, and the strengthening of national security. The CPI(M) Polit Bureau member informed that these pamphlets were being translated in all the languages, to make the people of the country aware of the threat posed by the BJP, which was running with the hares, while hunting with the hounds. In addition to these ten pamphlets, the Party will release another supplementary set, which would be detailing the BJP misdeeds comprehensively. The first title of that series will be - BJP's Assault on Education and Educational Institutions.

Sitaram Yechury said that the BJP was challenging the basic fundamental tenet of the country's constitution - secularism, and the reiteration of this party's adherence to communalism, has come from one of its general secretaries. He maintained that minus communalism, there was no political space for the BJP, and whatever the NDA manifesto may say, this party stood for its hidden communal agenda.

On being repeatedly questioned about the failure of seat adjustments between the RJD and the CPI in Bihar, Yechury said that he was hopeful of a settlement taking palce. He pointed out that the senior CPI leaders were not in Delhi, and after their return, the CPI(M) would talk to them in an effort to resolve the crisis.

Replying to another question on the CPI(M) alliances with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu and the RJD in Bihar, the leaders of which are facing corruption charges. Yechury stated that the CPI(M) had no allaince with these parties, but only seat sharing agreements. He further elaborated that, the communal forces were involved in the Telecom Scam, and the amount of money invloved in thoat scam was much greater than that of many other scams put together. Yechury went on to say that the fight is between communal and corrupt forces on one side, and the secular forces on the other. He reminded that except the Left parties, there is not a single party which has not been involved in corruption.
