The burning problem of this region has been the navigability and the inundation capacity of the rivers Mathabanga, Padma, Bhagirathi and Jalangi. The people of Nadia have realised that; it is impossible to escape the problem of flood without increasing navigability of river by working on them. Side by side, the excessive use of ground water in irrigation can create acute problems. So to avoid this kind of problem, it is more appropriate to increase the capacity of the surface water.

The present correspondent asked Renupada Das, the convenor of Left Front in Nadia, "Do you have any scope of setting up any new industry in Nadia?" He answered with exclamation, "Why not?" He also elaborated the steps, which should be taken up for speedy development of the district. For this, the steps are

  1. It is time to set up new modern firms around Kalyani
  2. It is easy to form food-processing industry in Nadia due to massive production in foods & vegetables.
  3. It is also time to solve the problems of weavers in the state.
  4. The artisans possess tradition in bell metal and brass industry.

The people demanded immediate introduction of Bell Metal training cum production centre at Nabadwip to develop these industries. In spite of being jute cultivating region jute mill is yet to be set up in this district. Private owners purchase most of the jute produced in this region because JCI purchases are very negligible part of the jute production. So farmers can not get proper price in most of the times.

The villagers of the North-East part of district like Tehatta, Betaim Najirpur Mahisbathan and Karimpur cannot avail of the facility of the railway tracks. So they demanded opening up of the railway service between Krishanager and Baharampur via Karimpur.

The people who led the procession are so well known that the question of development of Nadia has become an integral part of the political demands. They also said that it is most important for movement against the liberalisation and communalism onslaught as well as for the development of district. The worker of left oriented mass organisation Ruma Das clearly explained that, the development has been obstructed by the reactionary forces once they got scope to come into power even in local level. At Krishnanagar panchayet, Trinamul-BJP alliance has come in power, there has been no security of CPI (M) workers. There has also been severe law and order problem in the region. They have even excluded CPI (M) supporters from taking part in developmental programme.
