| Editorial Idealism without ideology Mr. L. K. Advani in his recent interview to the BBC and others has given his own interpretation of English words "ideology" and "idealism" which may sound queer to many but not to those, who know Advani and his Sangh Parivar. Asked to explain as to why BJPs commitments in its 98 manifesto to build Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, to scrap Article 370 of Indian Constitution and to enforce uniform Civil Code have been shelved for the next 5 years, Shri Advani explained that these commitments are part of their ideology but governance is based on idealism. Agenda of National Democratic Alliance for governance would, therefore, be a part of idealism but not of ideology. To any one, who is committed to some ideology, idealism is only to translate his ideology into the action to the extent possible. Mr. Advani is not oblivious of this basic philosophy. He is playing with these words only to cover up sheer hypocrisy and double speak the quality where he and his Sangh Parivar excel, for an immediate access to State power so that the same can be utilised subsequently to implement their ideology of Hindutva. The double speak is evident when Govindacharya, Malkani and others still talk of commitment of Sangh Parivar and BJP to these issues while Vajpayee and Advani play a different tune for public consumption for immediate electoral gain. It is not the ideology or idealism, Mr. Advani. It is actually the question of Mukh (face) and Mukhota (mask). Do you get me Mr. Govindacharya? 13th September, 1999. |
