It is the maturity of the Indian electorate which has failed the efforts of the BJP publicity juggernaunt Promod Mahajans DD to the make this elections out to be a "Vajpayees Kargil victory mandate The crude attempt to obscure Vajpayee govt's record in office did not succeed. Its dismal performance on all fronts including nation security and its nongovernance on major issues confronting the country came to the fore in some form or other. The climax saw Vajpayee himself scurrying to save his seat in Lucknow for last three days before the poll on 3rd October with words of assurance and promise to the people of his constituency . Whether the people get influenced by these promises can only be judged by the poll results. But one thing is sure.No one can take the people for granted. Least of all, the Vajpayees Mahajans and Advanis. 4th October, 1999. |
