Even as the state of Orissa is still reeling under the cyclone after-effects, a relief bus carrying foodstuff and other material for the affected people in the state, was looted in Meerut of Uttar Pradesh. But this is not the only bad news emanating from the stench of Orissa; cholera, gastro diseases and other forms of endemic diseases are sweeping across the state, parts of which are still under water. Carcasses are floating around and there are still areas where relief has still not reached and the Army has failed to gain access. It has been an acute case of failure of the state machinery.

Relief is being collected in West Bengal and trucks carrying foodstuff, clothes and medicine are reaching the cyclone areas in great numbers. The state leadership of the party has gone to the grassroots level and come out on the streets to collect contributions which has evoked a tremendous response in Bengal. The campaign to collect relief is now in full swing.
