P(M) leader Dhaniram Khosla passes away

Comrade Dhaniram Khosla, a veteran and popular trade union leader and also a senior CPI(M) leader of Assam, passed away today afternoon at Vellore CMC hospital. He was 64.

Com.Dhaniram Khosla, who was ailing for a couple of months, was admitted to the hospital for treatment of cancer. He has left behind his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Com. Khosla was a dedicated trade unionist and a popular leader of the party. Born on 25 December 1935, Com. Khosla joined the trade union movement in 1955 during his school days. He was instrumental in the formation of the Akhil Bharatiya Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ABCMS) in the 1956 which was affiliated to the AITUC. After the formation of the CITU in 1970, the ABCMS was affiliated to the CITU. Com. Dhaniram Khosla was the president of the ABCMS till his death. He also served as the president of the CITU state committee for some time.

Born in a poor tea-garden worker’s family, Dhaniram Khosla was wedded to Marxism-Leninism, and joined the undivided Communist Party in 1958. Afterwards, he joined the CPI(M) in 1964 immediately after the split of the Communist movement. Com. Khosla was a state secretariat member of the CPI(M). He was elected secretary of the CPI(M) Darrang-Sonilpur district committee in 1982 and continued in the post till his death. He will always be fondly remembered for his amicable nature, loving personality and leadership quality.

The Assam state committee of the CPI(M) condoles the death of Com. Khosla and sends its heart felt sympathy to the bereaved family members of the departed leader.

The CPI(M) state committee dips its red-flag at half-mast as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
