From India News Network(INN)

The CPI(M), Delhi state committee strongly condemns the heinous attack on a Christian congregation at J J Colony, Khayala, by goons belonging to the BJP. This attack is a sign of things to come, under the benign eye of the central government led by the communal BJP.

A delegation of the CPI(M), consisting of Jogendra Sharma, Central Committee member, V. John, state committee member, and Pushpinder Grewal, state secretary, visited C Block of the J J Colony Khayala yesterday and talked to people belonging to different communities residing there. Unlike what the Additional Commissioner of Police has stated, people of all communities confirmed the burning of two copies of the Bible as well as of a stage backdrop with a cross on it, by the attackers. The small number of Christians living in the area is feeling extremely insecure. Many of them told this to the delegation in plain words. The fact that the police have not yet arrested any of the assailants, coupled with the deliberate underplaying of the incident by its Additional Commissioner, smack of attempts to shield the culprits.

The shocking incident cannot be allowed to be brushed under the carpet. Doing so will have very serious repercussions for communal harmony in the city. The CPI(M) demands immediate arrest of the perpetrators of this crime. It also demands that the Lt. Governor immediately call a meeting of all political parties to discuss the modalites for preventing any such incident taking place in future. We appeal to all democratic citizens and organisations to raise their powerful voice of protest against this crime and the attempts of the BJP and its allied organisations to target the minority communities.
