From India News Network(INN)

The All India Democratic Women’s Association(AIDWA) strongly protest against the non-inclusion of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the list of business decided for the Lok Sabha. The prime minister’s statement that his government will work for a "consensus" on the bill is nothing but sheer hypocrisy. If he is so concerned about consensus why has his government placed the Insurance bill on the floor of the house when there is a petition signed by over one crore people against it? Why such double standards? Such an approach will also weaken the democratic process as it will replace open debate in parliament with backroom maneuvers.

Clearly the main consideration with the prime minister is not concern to honour his commitment to women of this country but to save his own government the ignominy of a division since at least two of its members have voiced their opposition to the bill.

The AIDWA appeals to supporters of the bill in parliament to reflect the concern of the large majority of women in this country in support of the bill and to ensure that it is at least placed for discussion on the floor of the house in this session of parliament.
