Closing of Indian Mind

After coming to the power for second time, "Vajpayee govt. has already started its saffornisation process into the various bodies in educational and cultural sectors.  Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee and his ministers want their "yes man" in all policy making bodies, which normally comprises with the important personalities.  Prime Minister's team has an allergy for democratic minded people even they are stalwarts in the respective fields.  Recent example of BJP's move is the exclusion of Prof. Romila Thapar from the board of Prasar Bharati.  There should be no doubt that Prof. Romila Thapar is a renowned historian and respectable personality in our country.  Prof. Thapar is an outstanding Internationally acclaimed social scientist.  Her work on ancient Indian history and origins of Indian civilisation has been read by generations of school and college students.  But information and Broadcasting Ministry has not counted her excellence and only asked to quit the board by sending a letter.  Ministry has not shown minimum courtesy to discuss with Mrs. Thapar before sending the letter.

The character of the Prasar Bharati board is autonomy which is contradictory to the code word, "Government Control".  It is very clear from the move of the government that they are changing its position daily and one is waiting to see where it all ends.  The question is whether the Government wants to change the basic character of the Prasar Bahrati or get rid of those who are perceived as liberals.  Prasar Bharati could be enriched with the output of intellectual mind of Prof. Thapar but the Govt. wants the close Indian mind.  The trend seems to be to try and push everybody aside except for the hardcore, those who are committed to the Sangh Parivar Ideology, as it was happened to the educational institutions, school text books, ICWR, ICSSR, NCERT
