Waiting for the Millennium Calcutta prepares to party Calcutta University Banerjee is new VC

Economics professor Ashis Banerjee has been chosen unanimously as the 50^th  vice-chancellor of Calcutta University. Professor Banerjee was born on July 26, 1947.In 1966, he passed out in economics from the Presidency College and in 1969, got the highest grades in his post-graduation examinations from Calcutta University. Later in 1976, he secured a PhD from the John Hopkins University. He has also taught at the Towsen State College in the US after holding a brief stint at the Calcutta University. In 1978, he returned as reader to Calcutta University and became a professor in 1986.He will take over from Rathindranarayan Bose as vice-chancellor on December 31.
