By Aniruddha Chakraborty A ttacks on CPI(M) leaders and workers by Trinamool Congress and BJP packed Criminals have increased considerably in last few months in different districts of West Bengal. Almost everywhere the victims are poor-people, specially the agricultural labourers and poor peasants. Such incidents have taken place particularly in Midnapore, 24 Parganas (North), 24 Parganas (South), Bankura, Murshidabad and Calcutta. The latest has been the murder of Comrade Gurupada Bagchi, Secretary of the CPI(M) Kasba Local Committee and the murder of Comrade Subodh Nayban, member of Mathurapur Zonal Committee in 24 Parganas (South). Both the incidents took place on 23rd January. Comrade Bagchi was shot point blank by the TMC-BJP backed criminals at Kasba market in South Calcutta, when he was buying fish from the market, trouble errupted as news of Bagchis murder spread. Angry mob attacked about 150 shops. CPI(M) called a 24 hour bandh in Kasba, Jadavpur, Ballygunge, Dhakuria, parts of Jadavpur and Sonarpur of 24 th January. The bandh was total and peaceful. Comrade Bagchi was a popular leader of that area and he had organised people against criminal activites.CPI(M) has called a protest rally on 27 January at Kasba, protest day will be observed throughout West Bengal on the same day. Meanwhile CPI(M) West Bengal State Committee Secretary Anil Biswas told newsmen that in Midnapore district alone 19 party leaders and workers have been killed by TMC-BJP backed criminals in last few months, altogether 449 persons have got injury, 2289 houses have been ransacked by them, In Bankura and Hooghly district, the experience is same. Biswas said, these attacks are preplanned unable to face politically, the TMC_BJP combine are using these criminals. Their only aim is to create lawlessness in West Bengal. He alleged that a section of state police are actively helping them. In many cases police have not taken action against the criminals despite prior complain. He has urged partymen and sympathisers to organist protest rallies in West Bengal to expose the conspiracy of TMC_BJP. Meanwhile West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu said on Monday that the State Government will set up a joint committee comprising of Calcutta police and State police officials to identify and arrest the murders of CPI(M)s Kasba Local Committee Secretary. |
