U's condemn move for privatisation.

On 24th January over five lakh electricity workers and power engineers all over the country went on strike in solidarity with the striking electricity workers of UP. Hundreds of workers demonstrated before the office of the Union Power Minister at New Delhi. The demonstration denounced the power policy of the central government and its mad drive for privatisation and condemned the repression on the striking workers let loose by the BJP government in UP.

The demonstration was addressed by the leaders of various central trade unions and union of the electricity workers. Among those who addressed were M.K. Pandhe, general secretary CITU, K L Mahendra, general secretary AITUC, Mukund Gore, secretary BMS, Dr. Aparna, president of IFTU(Delhi), S N Deshpande, general secretary, Maharashtra Vidyut Karmachari Mahasangh(BMS) and S B Bharadwaj, secretary CITU.
