The seventh CITU state conference took off at Haldia on Saturday with a call by the state general secretary Chittabrata Majumder to intensify the struggle against the forces of the multinational forces and combine it with a deeper thrust on the political sphere against globalisation in general.

Majumder, who presented the draft resolution , made an analysis of the current situation and said that while the labour union was active in its struggle against injustice, it was evident that there were some shortcomings which needed to be sorted out. He said one of the main reason for this was the inability to identify the character of the new onslaught unleashed on the working classes in the country.

He said that the attacks were now not limited from one country or specific nations but was the result of a deeprooted conspiracy unleashed by the international communities from which even some developed nations were not safe any longer. However, since the social security system in these countries were more stable and powerful, the attacks could be thwarted for some time and definitely longer than that in nations like India. It is this change of character of the attacks which need a hard look, he said. The attacks cannot be met by fighting a single force in a single country, he added.
