| NEWSNOTES ABVP'S ATTACK CRITICISED
From India News Network(INN) T he vandalism at Kanpur city yesterday by ABVP activists is a barbaric attack on civil society. The self incarnation of ABVP as culture police is totally unwarranted and must be rebuffed.SFI and DYFI want to warn the ABVP not to impose their outdated and regressive morality on the younger generation. The ABVP who blackened the faces of couples at Kanpur should explain whether Indian culture means Vandalism? The ongoing process of highly commercialised capitalist development has dehumanised the male-female relations is a matter of concern for the entire society. But pushing back the society within the concepts of feudal morality as advocated by ABVP is no answer to this degeneration. The society has to help the younger generation to develop healthy and matured perspective on male-female relations. SFI and DYFI calls upon the younger generation to rally against the mounting vandalism of ABVP and other RSS group of organisations in the name of Indian Culture about which they have only half backed ideas. The Central secretariat of Students Federation of India in strongest terms condemns the cowardly attack on Dr. Ashgar Ali Engineer and the subsequent ransacking of his residence by Bohra muslim fundamentalists on 13th February in Mumbai. This heinous attack is matter of great shame not only for the entire community but for al patriotic Indians. We feel concern that through such acts minority communalism is in fact symbiotically fuelling the fire of majority communalism and fascistic forces in our country. This attack on the renowned social activist and intellectual Dr. Ashgar Ali Engineer is an offence against all progressive individuals and forces of India of which SFI is a part. We call upon one and all to protest against the shameful incident and to remain vigilant to resist such acts in the future. We extend our solidarity with Dr. Engineer, his family and friends in this hour of test. We wish quick recovery of Dr. Engineer who is presently undergoing treatment for his injuries at Nanavati hospital in Mumbai. |
