| NEWSNOTES Laloo Returns with a Bang
By Our Staff Reporter T The RJD and its allies have finally edged past the BJP-led coalition in Bihar as results came pouring in for the Assembly elections on Sunday. The RJD has itself got 123 seats while the allies comprising the CPI(M) ( two) and the CPI(M) supported Independents have got two seats. The BJP and its allies, the Samata Party and the Janata Dal (United)have got 123 seats ;obviously, in this situation of a hung Assembly, all the parties will try their level best to form the government. Laloo Prasad Yadav, who has sprung a major surprise by coming back into reckoning after a dismal showing in the last Lok sabha elections, has already flown to Delhi to hold talks with AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and the Congress with 23 legislators could hold the key to the new dispensation in the state. The Congress leader in charge of Bihar, Mohsina Kidwai, has made it clear that the scales are heavily tilted in favour of Laloo Prasad Yadav and said that the options in front of the party were limited given the nature of the danger potential in the BJP axis. However, ms gandhi has not yet made her mind known. But the Bihar unit of the Congress does not support the idea of backing Laloo and the Congress legislature party leader Ramashray Prasad , who has himself been defeated, has openly said that he would oppose any tie-up with the RJD saying that this would obliterate the Congress from the map of Bihar.it is this fructure that the BJP is trying to capitalise on and central leaders of the party are trying hard to wean away Congress leaders. Laloo has asked for CPI support and the CPI has got six seats. But the CPI has said that it not willing to go along with any party and would reserve any opinion on the matter.Obviously, the scenario is just right for the BJP moneychangers and power brokers to take centrestage and already feelers are being sent to Congress legisaltors to desert the Laloo camp. |
