In a massive rally held at Brigade Parade Ground, Calcutta Chief Minister Jyoti Basu and other left leaders said, Janata Dal and their associates are now in a disorganised form. They need to be united again. Left Parties will definitely co-operate them to form the third alternative. The rally also called to make the General Strike on 11th May, a success. Left Parties have organised the meeting in protest against the Central Govt.’s pollicies. The meeting took a colourful shape as people from all over the sate has joined with red flags, festoons, effigies of Clinton and multi colour posters. It was a wonderful gathering of the people ignoring the heat of the mid-day. People raise slogans against price rise, Clinton’s visit, safronisation at education, anti-people economic policy and communalising the situation. The people representing the cross section of the society have participated in the rally from all the districts.

Brigade Public.jpg (67764 bytes) the rally Jyoti Basu said, people from West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura should take the leadership of the country as they are politically conscious and committed to the cause. The reactionary forces are active to dislodge the Left Front Govt. in West Bengal. But we are firm in our conviction that left tradition will be maintained in coming future. We have the experience of running the govt. for last 23 years and to organise mass movement in favour of pro-people demands. People of West Bengal had vast experience of participating in mass movement. Our politically conscious people had a create history. They can again create history. We are sure our people will not leave Bengal to the reactionary and communal forces. The meeting was presided over by Left Front Chairman Sailen Dasgupta and addressed by the leaders like Biman Basu, Nandagopal Bhattacharya (CPI), Debabrata Biswas (FB), Debabrata Bandhopadhyay (RSP) and other Left Front leaders of the state.
