| NEWSNOTES Wage revision for PSU employees sought
From India News Network(INN) M . K. Pandhe, General Secretary CITU urged Dr. Satyanarayan Jatia, Labour Minister to intervene into the matter of wage revision of Public Sector employees. In his letter to labour minister MK Pandhe said, Please refer to the deliberations in the Standing Labour Committee meeting held on 9th February 2000, when the problem of wage revision for the employees of central public sector employees which got delayed by more than three years figured in the discussion. It was pointed out that the retrograde guidelines of Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), particularly extending the tenure of the wage agreement from five years to ten years among others created the stumbling block for meaningful bipartite wage negotiation in the public sector units. Please recall, in the face of opposition to the guideline regarding ten-year-tenure by all the trade unions in the SLC, and considered opinion of others regarding the un-reasonability of such provision, you had kindly assured to get the matter reviewed in positive direction before the end of March to end the stalemate in PSU wage revision. Kindly also recall that in the meeting with the leaders of central trade unions held on 1st February 2000, in your office, while appreciating the concern of the public sector workers on the issues mentioned in their "strike notice", you have conveyed that the government is already seized with the issues and the union cabinet in its meeting on the same day, appointed a Committee of Ministers to decide on those issues on urgent basis to the satisfaction of all concerned. Please appreciate that, the end of March is nearby and the government is yet to take any decision on the review of DPE guidelines on PSU wage revision. The workers are getting more restive, quite reasonably, though awaiting favourable decision from the government as committed. You will agree, such waiting should not be and cannot be indefinite. In view of above, I would request you to please appreciate the gravity of the of the situation, as well as the depth of resentment among the public sector workers all over the country and do the needful in expediting the decision on the concerned long pending and inordinately delayed issue |
