Grand opportunism

Trinamool Congress and a faction of West Bengal Congress leadership have taken an initiative to form grand alliance between TMC-Congress-BJP to combat left front in the ensuing elections. The new formula has evolved after the defeat of Congress candidate in recently held Rajya Sabha poll in West Bengal. Some Congress MLAs has secretly defected to TMC and voted against their own candidate. Congress candidate was lost due to internal trouble started from the nomination of the candidate. The faction led by Soumen Mitra and Barkat Gani Khan Chowdhury and their opponent group led by Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi have engaged themselves in open infighting on organisational issues. Just after the Rajya Sabha poll Somen Mitra and Barkat Gani Khan Chowdhury have openly announced that Congress should make a tie with TMC to defeat left forces. TMC has also responded positively to this issue.

Even Mamata Banerjee is too gentle to accept Barkat Saheb as Chief Minister of West Bengal in 2001. Pro TMC Congress faction is also generous to accept BJP as their ally with an exclusive target to defeat left front. They are projecting themselves as "Grand alliance" in the media. This alliance is nothing but an adjustment of unprincipled, immoral and opportunist political forces. Before the split of TMC from Congress, the people found lot of infightings in every level of congress. After the split the factionalism is continuing in a same manner. Presently TMC has also affected by internal clashes. Even their own people have killed the local TMC leaders. Recently TMC councellor of North 24 Parganas was murdered by another TMC councellor and the culprits have taken shelter in BJP state office. This may be the grand example of adjustment between three parties and their groups. People of West Bengal have fair experience on their opportunistic political activities. This grand alliance can only led to the rejection of the people. This mandate is obvious for their opportunism in politics.
