vp.jpg (30508 bytes)V.P.Singh, ex-prime minister and an acknowledged artist, today inaugurated the 6th National Conference of DYFI at a huge meeting of more than thousand delegates from all states and a number of leaders and activists of class-mass organisations. The delegates have earlier paid floral tributes of the martyrs and they were greated by a choir with a specially written and tuned song and a remarkably well choreographed dance assemble of balanced mixing of modern and traditional elements with the theme of the free spirit over the forces of intolerance. 

V.P.Singh, presumably moved much with memories of the freedom struggle and its values, said that the youth of the nation should have due participation in molding the national policies, for which, he demanded a statutory today of national youth samithi. Singh continued that education is the key to socio-political power and technology is the source of power and these two stand denied to the majority of our people. The achievements of Kerala in this regard is just an exception for which the left parites can really be proud of. the commercialisation of education is sure to result in disunity in our society and equality of opportunity can never be achieved under social inequalities.

Singh continued that a country is not just a geographical space, but the unity of the mass of the people and the youth should never allow any move to disunite the people. He said that the central govt. now Law no agenda of welfare of youth, workers for farmers, who are the real future of the country. They are the wealth of the nation and not bank deposits and foreign exchange reserves.

(I) to form a grand alliance in West Bengal against the left front will result in danger to that party itself. He said that it is strange to note that the Cong (I) which had initiated talks to form a govt. at the centre with the support of the left parties, is now moving against the left parties to help the BJP. 

V.P.Singh in his inaugural address also paid homage of EMS Namboodiripad, by saying that he has ever been happy to come to the home- state of EMS. He continued that EMS has showed much light on various issues to him with paternal patronage.

The delegates of the conference later had the organisational report and resolutions to be discussed at separate commissions. In the evening, there was a seminar on culture, inaugurated by Prof.Sukumar Azhikode, who called up on the youth to become the natural force and weapon fighting against social dangers. He also wanted the youth to disregard the rested weapons and to acquire effective new ones to fight against the solidified system of social norms. Prof. M. N. Vijayan, participating in the seminar said that fascism is making the society itself into a machine where man is lose his will, worth and identity. He requested the youth to move from the position of mere spectators to that of activists with clear vision.

The national conference is to continue up to April 10.
