A massive agitation has begun to check the erosion on the Ganga-Padma-Bhagirathi-Hooghly banks. In order to check the recurring floods in the Malda-Murshidabad region, the Left Front has decided to take up a sustained programme to ensure that the floods do not wreak vengeance as it has done year after year.
It has been decided to take up the cause with the Centre and stage dharnas in the Capital to ensure that the eight flood affected districts are protected.The Prime minister will be petitioned by members of the Front ministry. A huge meeting at the Farakka maidan grounds organsied by the Left Front had former Prime Minister H.Deve Gowda as its chief speaker.
